'Lion' in India is still preserved in?

A

Gir Forests of Kathiawar

B

Kerala State

C

Rajasthan State

D

West Bengal forests

Correct Answer: A

Gir Forests of Kathiawar

The Asiatic Lion, or Panthera leo persica, now survives only in the Gir Forests of Kathiawar, Gujarat. Long ago, these lions lived across northwest India, Pakistan, and even parts of the Middle East, but hunting and loss of habitat brought them to the brink of extinction. Today, the dry forests, grasslands, and water sources in Gir and its surrounding areas provide a safe home, helping their numbers slowly recover. Compared to African lions, Asiatic lions have smaller manes and slightly different pride structures. They are no longer found anywhere else in India, not in Kerala, Rajasthan, or West Bengal.
